Sustainability Through Environmental Professionalism
Operating under a Royal Charter, the Society for the Environment, supported by its Member Bodies, is the body responsible for championing and registering professionals with proven competence in their environmental work. We are the custodian of three professional registrations:
- Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv)
- Registered Environmental Practitioner (REnvP)
- Registered Environmental Technician (REnvTech)
Working as a partnership with our Licensed Members, we ensure the quality, relevance and awareness of our registrations and enable our partners and registrants to work together. We are in a unique position, bringing together a range of disciplines and sectors to reflect the multi-disciplinary practice of environmental professionals.
We have registered over 10,000 environmental professionals to date and new registrants are continuing to join the register year on year. The Society has also recognised exceptional contributions of over 70 individuals as Honorary Fellows of the Society for the Environment (HonFSE).

SocEnv Team
We are a small, but dynamic team working remotely to support, register and champion environmental professionals. The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us many things, including that we can work effectively and efficiently as a virtual team. Not only does this improve work-life balance by removing a potentially lengthy daily commute to the office, but it also helps our climate commitments. This way of working goes beyond our staff to also now be embedded into the ongoing work of our committees.
