Tony Juniper CEnv's reflections

One of our COP28 delegates Lara Young CEnv attended Finance day’s session on the Green Climate Fund (GCF) with a focus on Scaling up Access and Impact. Reflecting on the session, Lara said:

The eagerness to collaborate was loud and clear, with support all round for the Green Climate Fund – which is the world’s largest climate fund. Despite these good efforts however, there was a clear message calling for progress at a greater pace and scale than is currently being achieved. There is general recognition of the need to reform the current financing model: to keep the approach as clear and simple as possible, while acknowledging that there is no one size fits all solution. There is a need for an even bigger Green Climate Fund to ensure: a quicker pace of investment distribution; more transparency on results; and a deeper collaboration with actors to fund tangible climate action globally. The session also provided useful reminder of the need to reinforce our investment for climate adaptation – ensuring we recognise and shape approaches based on each nation’s individual climate risks/impacts.
