I would absolutely recommend CEnv registration to my fellow RICS members. CEnv registration is for Chartered Surveyors from any specialism who work in environmentally related matters, not just for those who have gained their RICS membership through the Environmental Surveying Pathway, and can help you to demonstrate your specialist competencies to the benefit of your career prospects.

Chartered Environmental Surveyor
David, a RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) Fellow, started his journey as a surveyor and environmentalist by graduating from Sheffield Hallam University with a degree in the RICS accredited BSc (Hons) Mineral Estate Management in 1996. He views this course, allied with his ‘sandwich year’ working as a development surveyor with an opencast coal mining company, as hugely important milestones that set him up well for a successful career.
After progressing his career in environmental management within the railway civil engineering industry, he entered private practice and established his firm, DIEM Ltd, in 2005. In 2011, David gained his Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) registration, a logical step following his qualification as an MRICS Chartered Environmental Surveyor via the Environmental Surveying Pathway.
David found the CEnv registration process straightforward, with its competencies aligning closely with those required for MRICS status. The high degree of knowledge and competence required to attain CEnv registration also helped demonstrate his credentials when he successfully achieved RICS Fellowship.
For over two decades through DIEM Ltd, David supported UK based clients across six continents with their global operations, helping them attain ISO 14001 and ISO 50001 certifications while boosting their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and sustainability strategies. A stand out career highlight occurred in 2018, when he met Her Majesty The Queen while representing RICS’ environmental leadership at the Institution’s 150th anniversary celebrations.
Having built an extensive background in environmental management, ISO systems, and standards, David in 2026 he advanced his career into working in a global role for a leading defence company as Group Environmental Compliance Manager. Looking ahead, he continues to leverage his deep expertise in management systems and environmental compliance to support high assurance infrastructure and strategic operations.
One more thing:
I have found that CEnv is a great harmoniser of skills and competencies, with Chartered Environmentalists holding membership of 26 Professional bodies from a diverse spectrum of sectors. As I work across many different sectors myself, including construction, land and property management, real estate from minerals extraction and facilities management, this diversity is very appealing and reflective of the environmental profession.
