Environmental Apprenticeships

The Society for the Environment champion all routes into the environmental sector that equip aspiring professionals with the necessary knowledge and experience to begin a successful and rewarding career in their desired discipline, including apprenticeships.

In many cases, the structure of apprenticeships can link well with the competence requirements for professional registration  via the combination of work-based practice and theoretical knowledge – although the different apprenticeship levels are key to which registration opportunity the apprenticeship align to. For the aforementioned reasons, and many others, we will support relevant apprenticeships where possible.

An example of the Society’s work with apprenticeships is the support provided to the level six Environmental Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship, which launched in time for organisations to employ apprentices and for them to enrol with training providers in September 2019.

We asked the questions: why apply for a degree apprenticeship? and why employ a degree apprentice? – with hugely positive findings for the Environmental Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship! We also focused our February 2020 podcast around the apprenticeship, featuring an interview with an Environmental Practitioner Degree apprentice and their employer, Mott MacDonald.
