SocEnv are delighted to announce the launch of the #embedsustainability campaign in collaboration with the Chartered Association of Building Engineers

A brand-new campaign developed to encourage sustainability within the built environment sector.

The Society for the Environment (SocEnv) are delighted to announce the launch of the #embedsustainability campaign in collaboration with the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE).

As the Climate Emergency worsens, there is a growing need to expand the adoption of environmental practices across the professions. In particular, building engineers are of pivotal importance in meeting climate objectives, due to the vital impact of their work and the carbon footprint of the built environment sector.

This new campaign has been developed in recognition of this vital role and with the aim of encourage the community of building engineering professionals to #embedsustainability within their work. The campaign seeks to achieve this by opening up a dialogue on how sustainability can be adopted across the life cycle of building projects and into operational procedures.

This campaign has been developed as part of a long-term partnership between SocEnv and CABE.
CABE is a Licensed Member of SocEnv, with a licence to award all three environmental professional registrations: Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), Registered Environmental Practitioner (REnvP) and Registered Environmental Technician (REnvTech).

Both CABE and SocEnv share a commitment to expand environmentally good practices throughout the built environment sector and beyond. Collaboration allows these aims to be met to a greater extent as the reach and impact of the work is expanded. This campaign is being launched in advance of the CABE Annual Conference, within which SocEnv is acting as a Sustainability Collaborator.

Dr Emma Wilcox CEnv FIMMM CMgr FCMI, Chief Executive of the Society for the Environment (SocEnv) said:

This partnership with CABE enables us to promote positive environmental practices within the building engineering sector. We are delighted to collaborate on such an important campaign and encourage professionals from across the sector to get involved.”

Dr Gavin Dunn, Chief Executive of the Chartered Association of Building Engineers (CABE) said:

To meet the ambitious energy efficiency targets for buildings, as outlined in the future homes standard and similar performance targets across the globe, the construction industry needs a significant mindset change. Sustainability should never be an afterthought; it must be embedded within every project right at the very start, whether it is a new build or a renovation project. The coming together of Building Engineer and the Society for the Environment and their registrants, means that they are well placed to help with this mindset change and to help drive competency in sustainability.”

We are eager to see the building engineering community share good practices on how you #embedsustainability into your work.
