Along with 10 other organisations, SocEnv has written to the Prime Minister and Chancellor on the value of nature to the economy and society.
The letter, delivered earlier this week, expresses our deep concern around the perceived conflict between growth and nature. We argue that the idea of choosing between housing and environmental protection is a false dichotomy and that both can be achieved with the right policies and expert engagement.
Referencing the 2021 Dasgupta Review, we emphasise that nature is fundamental to the economy and public well-being, providing essential ecosystem services.
