In July 2025, we submitted a response to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero consultation into Voluntary carbon and nature markets: raising integrity.
This response was shaped by volunteers to our Chartered Environmentalist led Soils and Stones project.
We welcome the UK Government’s six Principles for Voluntary Carbon and Nature Market (VCNM) Integrity. They align with our ambition to promote sustainable economic growth through a circular economy and nature-based solutions, supported by natural capital accounting, sound environmental governance and independently assessed professional standards. We regret, however, the lack of focus on soils in the consultation paper.
From the SocEnv response
Our response is shaped by the three overarching aims of the SocEnv Soils & Stones project:
(Aim 1) advocate policies that value soils and stones.
(Aim 2) shape and share good practice for consistent approach.
(Aim 3) forge connections that would facilitate collaborative outcomes.
