In April 2025 Midlands Land Events, in collaboration with SocEnv, launched the SILOtoSOIL tool, dedicated to fostering collaboration in soil management.

Alongside our partner Midlands Land Events (MidLE), we are delighted to launch the new SILOtoSOIL tool, that provides a brilliant one-click way to access soil-related guidance and publications, from across a wide range of sectors. The tool embodies the knowledge-sharing ethos inherent to SocEnv. Interdisciplinary and evidence-based, the tool also complements guidance produced by the SocEnv Soils and Stones project, including the Ten Principles of Good Soils and Stones Management. I would encourage all practitioners working with soils and stones to check out the tool and benefit from the array of good practice that’s out there, at a click.

Dedicated to fostering collaboration in soil management
In the summer of 2023, the Midlands Land Events (MidLE) “New Future for Soils” event led to the formation of the SILOtoSOIL project, a volunteer- driven initiative dedicated to fostering collaboration in soil management. Working alongside Society for the Environment (SocEnv), SILOtoSOIL helps to shape a more coordinated approach to soil-related challenges, and are we now pleased to introduce our latest resource – The SILOtoSOIL Tool.
As part of this mission, MidLE has developed The SILOtoSOIL Tool to highlight the wealth of existing soil related expertise, guidance, and publications available across different disciplines and locations. The tool serves two key purposes:
- Identifying organisations involved in the soil discussion (through the SILOtoSOIL mapping PDF); and
- Cataloguing soil- related guidance across sectors and locations (through the SILOtoSOIL excel database).
By making these connections visible, MidLE aims to reduce duplication, encourage knowledge- sharing, and promote more efficient collaboration, which is a shared aim with the SocEnv Soils and Stones Project (to find out more about this project, click the link below).
