Solutions Day
The final thematic day of COP27 focused on "Solutions". A day for countries and organisations to share good practice across areas such as greening of national budgets, sustainable cities, sustainable transport, resource management, alternatives to plastic and green building. What happened on Solutions Day?
The early draft of a potential cover decision for COP27 was released. Analysis on this draft can be viewed in the Guardian and Reuters.
A raft of initiatives were launched, including the Presidency Initiative Low Carbon Transport for Urban Sustainability (LᶜO₂TUS) and the Accelerating To Zero Coalition, aimed at achieving a transition to Zero Emission Vehicles.
It was also announced that in the last year around another 50 countries have joined the global pact to reduce methane emissions, meaning more than 150 nations have signed up to the pact to date. Find out more here.
It was a busy day for the environmental profession, with activity from SocEnv’s Licensed Members including:
- The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) held a live broadcast regarding ‘Sustainable Food Technology and COP27’. Watch back here.
- The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) published an article, noting: “With no credible pathway to 1.5 degrees currently in place, the pace at which we fund and progress adaptation needs far greater urgency.” Read the full article here.
