Finance Day

The first topic under the spotlight in the COP27 thematic programme was the vital issue of Climate Finance - from funding and investment to market incentives and compensation for loss and damage.

What happened on Finance Day?

U.S. climate envoy Kerry launched carbon offset plan – the Energy Transition Accelerator (ETA) – to fund renewable energy projects and accelerate clean energy transitions in developing nations. Find out more here.

China said they are willing to contribute to a mechanism for compensating poorer countries for losses and damage as a result of climate change. Find out more here.

The high-level ministerial dialogue on the new collective quantified goal on climate finance took place, with discussions on how to mobilise finance and accountability. Watch back here.
