CIOB

Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has partnered with Content With Purpose (CWP) to produce a wide-ranging digital series, ‘The Nature of Building: Biodiversity & the Built Environment’, the series examines the complex connection
between construction and nature and the urgent need for the industry to address the rapidly worsening
biodiversity crisis.

The Nature of Building: Biodiversity & the Built Environment offers a platform to celebrate the role of built environment professionals in shaping a greener tomorrow. Through collaboration, innovation, and forward-thinking practices, this series showcases the possibilities for a construction industry that prioritises nature at every step.

The series features industry experts including the following Chartered Environmentalists:

  • Amanda Williams CEnv, Head of Environmental Sustainability at CIOB
  • Tom Oliver CEnv, Associate Director at Atkinsrealis
  • Claire Wansbury CEnv, Technical Director at Atkinsrealis
  • Martin Baxter FIEMA, CEnv, Deputy CEO at IEMA
  • Dr Stephanie Wray CEnv, Director at Nature Positive

Commenting on the series, Amanda Williams, FIEMA CEnv, Head of Environmental Sustainability at CIOB, said:
“It is vital that the construction industry adapts to reduce its impact on biodiversity and ultimately work
towards nature positive outcomes. We know this will require innovation in a challenging context, but we can
start by giving nature a seat at the table.

We hope our series will highlight what biodiversity is, why it’s important, and how construction impacts on
nature, as well as showing examples of best practice to demonstrate that we can meet society’s needs for
new housing and infrastructure, without sacrificing the natural world.”
