CEnv Profile | Becky Toal CEnv, Managing Director

Becky Toal CEnv is the Managing Director of Crowberry Consulting Ltd, an environment, energy and CSR consultancy established in 2006 and based in Chorley, Lancashire. Becky’s environmental expertise is demonstrated via her education, holding three Environmental Degrees including a BSc in Ecology, MSc in Environmental Impact Assessment and MBA in Environmental Management, as well as over 20 years experience working in the sector. Prior to setting up Crowberry Consulting Becky worked for the Co-operative Group as the Environmental Programme Manager and was also previously Environmental Manager at Natural England.

Trained as an Environmental Auditor, Becky is a full member of the Institute of Environmental Management (IEMA), Lead Auditor to ISO 14001, ISO 50001 and ISO 20121 and is a registered Ethical Auditor with SEDEX and RJC.

Becky holds Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) registration via IEMA – a registration she gained in 2005 at a time when Environmental Management issues in business were just becoming more understood and taken more seriously. Becky credits holding CEnv, a highly regarded registration licensed by a Society with a Royal Charter, for giving her more credibility in her work. For her, being a CEnv is a hugely valuable demonstration to other professionals that she meets a high level of knowledge, skills and commitment as required by the environmental profession and Society as a whole.

The registration also links Becky with a network of well-known and publicly acknowledged professionals working across many sectors within the environmental and sustainability profession, which she regards as a huge privilege. For this reason, she also values the range of opportunities and events offered by the Society, providing the opportunity for peer to peer networking as well as knowledge building.

A career highlight was achieved in 2021, as Becky was appointed – in partnership with Arup – as Lead Sustainability Consultant of both G7 and COP26, with her work duly recognised as the events were awarded the ISO 20121 standard.

Then, in 2022, Becky was honoured to be named the 2022 Environmental Professional of the Year – as part of the SocEnv Awards – in recognition of going above and beyond to protect the environment.

Becky’s main tips for prospective Chartered Environmentalists:

I would encourage any IEMA member to apply to become a CEnv as it is a highly credible and recognisable qualification and the next logical step on your professional journey. Make sure to reach out to other IEMA members for advice and guidance before you submit!
