On the eve of World Environment Day (4th June), the Society for the Environment presented the prestigious Honorary Fellowship award to Chartered Environmentalist, Martin Baxter.
Through the award of Honorary Fellow (HonFSE), the Society for the Environment recognizes exceptional contributions made to protect and enhance our environment.
Collectively our Honorary Fellows represent a breadth of sectors and are all eminent and respected in their own right. Together they have a powerful voice and there is a significant opportunity for influencing together on policy at the highest levels.
Martin Baxter CEnv was presented his HonFSE by Society for the Environment’s Chief Executive, Dr Emma Wilcox CEnv during our annual Awards Event on Tuesday 4th June 2024. Martin is a deserving recipient of this honor due to his contributions to the Society and the environment.
Martin works in the UK and internationally to support the transition to a low carbon, resource efficient and sustainable economy. He has worked in the sector for over 3 decades and has a wide breadth to his engagement and impact encompassing standards, government, industry, and the media.
He is often quoted as a spokesperson for IEMA in the published media as well as broadcast media and was a regular presence during the drought of 2022 on mainstream networks such as the BBC. He also speaks at numerous events such as Future Build, Edie and Business Green but is always keen to engage organisations on corporate sustainability and the education sector where he is often requested to speak to universities, colleges and more.
Martin is one of our Board members and has worked collaboratively with us for many years and is a big advocate for the work that we do alongside other professional bodies. And finally, Martin is CEnv number 2, which means he has been a CEnv for very nearly 20 years.
SocEnv’s Chief Executive, Dr Emma Wilcox CEnv, speaking about Martin’s HonFSE award said: “I first met Martin when I joined [the Society], and he was on our Registration Authority (RA). Since then, he has Chaired the RA and now Chairs our Audit and Risk Committee as a Board Member – bringing constructive challenge and support. Martin’s passion, knowledge and support have helped SocEnv become what we are today and will support us on the next stage of our journey.”
“There’s a huge amount to do to tackle the significant environmental challenges we face; never has there been a more important time for the environmental profession to help lead the change we need for a sustainable future. It’s a huge honour to receive such a prestigious award from the Society for the Environment and a proud moment in my career.”
