About the Expert Speakers

Dr Adam Read CEnv - Director of External Affairs @ Suez Recycling & Recovery UK Ltd

Dr Adam Read CEnv is the Director of External Affairs at Suez Recycling & Recovery UK Ltd., where he is responsible for government engagement, and closer working with CIWM, ESA and other trade bodies in the UK and internationally, including ISWA and FEAD. Much of his time in the last 12 months has been dominated by addressing the Chinese recycling import situation, and in working with DEFRA & BEIS on the upcoming new Resources & Waste Strategy. 

Adam has been in the sector for over 20 years as a local authority officer, academic and consultant, the last 15 of which have been in the consultancy space, supporting local authorities on designing, evaluating, procuring and commissioning recycling and residual waste treatment solutions. Adam has worked with MRFs on feedstock controls, technology solutions, and output specifications since 1995, and is now working closely with both the trading teams and the operational teams at Suez, both in the UK and internationally, on improvements that can be made to enable municipal and commercial recyclates to be recovered. He is a Fellow of the CIWM and will become President in October 2020.

 

Martin Gettings CEnv - Head of Sustainability @ Canary Wharf Group plc

A Chartered Environmentalist, and Full Member of the Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment, Martins background is engineering, design, and construction management: a foundation for sustainable development in the built environment.

Martin has been with Canary Wharf Group since 2011 and is responsible for achieving some of the Groups highest environmental benchmark ratings and leading sustainability performance to date. 

As mentor in Level39 the Groups in house Future City Accelerator, he has helped several start-ups achieve success in pilot implementation. With over 14,000 connections, Martin is a serial collaborator, working on a number of leading industry initiatives including ‘Ultra Site’, ‘Innovation Lab’ and ‘Breaking the Plastic Habit’, all supporting our overall mission to Make Sustainability Real.
