Society for the Environment E-Newsletter
Issue #7 | Friday 29th June 2018
Welcome to the June edition of our e-newsletter - an exciting month!

June has been a busy time for the Society. At the beginning of the month we celebrated World Environment Day with our annual awards and lectures evening, culminating with the presentation of the 2018 Environmental Professional of the Year award to Graham Powell CEnv - huge congratulations to Graham, the runner up and three highly commended finalists (find out more below)!

We are also preparing for our upcoming Council meeting and AGM, working to respond to the Government consultation on environmental governance and, over the next few months, we will be speaking to stakeholders to understand how our registrations meets their needs (now at planning stages).

A Photographic and Editorial Look Back – Annual Awards and Lectures 2018

Our annual awards and lectures evening on World Environment Day was designed to celebrate the work of environmental professionals, create networking opportunities with peers and provide expert lectures on topical issues - and it did all of this in bucket loads. But, the time went so quickly!

With this in mind, we decided to give you a good reminder (or taster if you couldn't join us) of what happening on the evening of the 5th June at Arup. Alongside the presentation of the Environmental Professional of the Year Award 2018 (above) and the announcement of three new Honorary Fellows of the Society, there were a number of expert lectures. This "look back" focuses on what was said and draws the key points from talks - with event photographs along the way. Speakers included:
  • Professor Ian Boyd, Defra
  • Dr Costas Velis, University of Leeds
  • Stephanie McGibbon CEnv, Arup
  • Dr Emyr Roberts HonFSE, Former CEO of Natural Resources Wales
  • Professor Paul Leinster HonFSE CEnv, Cranfield University
