Updates From the Chair and Chief Executive of the Society
The Society's CEO, Dr Emma Wilcox, welcomes you to the first Newsletter; "I am delighted to welcome you to our inaugural Newsletter through which we will share with you the work of the Society and our professional registrants. We will highlight opportunities for you to get involved, be it through championing the work of environmental professionals, being part of our events or making sure your voice is heard."

The Society's Chair, Dr Peter Matthews CBE CEnv, highlights the importance of World Environment Day; "World Environment Day is the ‘people’s day’ for doing something to take care of the Earth or become an agent of change. That ‘something’ can be focused locally, nationally or globally; it can be a solo action or involve a crowd – everyone is free to choose."

Featured News: Environmental Professional of the Year Announced
On the 4th May, The Society for the Environment celebrated environmental professionalism by awarding the Environmental Professional of the Year Award. The award was presented to Dr Phillippa Pearson CEnv, Catchment Manager at Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water and member of the Institute of WaterDr Emma Wilcox, Chief Executive Officer of the Society, said “This Award demonstrates the exceptional achievements and personal commitments of environmental professionals and the positive impact of being registered.”

The Society Champions World Environment Day
Together with a number of it's Licensed Bodies, the Society hosted an expert led conference on World Environment Day (5th June), with a theme of ‘Innovation, Partnership and the Value of Nature’. Specialist speakers from a variety of sectors provided insight into their field and highlighted how their work contributes to the underlying principles of World Environment Day. Alongside this conference, environmental professionals contributed to the World Environment Day conversation with a series of blogs and articles
