Society for the Environment E-Newsletter
Issue #17 | Thursday 27th February 2020
An Update from our Chief Executive and Chair

Welcome to our first e-newsletter of 2020!

As an umbrella body tasked with championing and registering the expertise of environmental professionals, professional competence and collaboration is at the heart of everything we do.

That's why we helped found the Pledge to Net Zero initiative, the first industry commitment in the UK requiring organisations to create rigorous, science-based targets for reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. To date, 34 organisations have made the pledge with a combined total of approximately 20,100 employees between them. Find out how you can join them.

Current Webinar Series: "A Sustainable Built Environment"

The fourth series of Webinars@SocEnv has the umbrella topic of "A Sustainable Built Environment" - providing cross-disciplinary knowledge transfer opportunities for environmental professionals and beyond.

In this series, we're hearing from Chartered Environmentalists from professional bodies, universities, major infrastructure projects and independent consultancies. Sub-topics under the umbrella theme include professionalism in arboriculture, the role of research, materials for High Speed 2 (HS2) and SuDS.

Our FREE webinar series and episodes are available for all to attend, last for a maximum of one hour and use a simple platform for you to watch and engage with the speakers.

All of our webinars are available to view online shortly after they are held. You can catch up on previous webinars and sign up to attend future ones via our website.

Looking back on a successful National Apprenticeship Week

We champion all routes into the environmental sector that equip aspiring professionals with the necessary knowledge and experience for a successful career. That's why we are proud to have supported this year's National Apprenticeship Week, held from 3rd- 9th February.

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we put a spotlight on the newly established level six Environmental Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship, the very first degree apprenticeship for the environmental sector, which SocEnv helped develop and launch.

We asked: 'why apply for a degree apprenticeship in 2020' and 'why employ a degree apprentice in 2020' & featured an interview with an Environmental Practitioner Degree & their employer as part of our February podcast - all with hugely positive findings for the Environmental Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship!
