Cleaner air: New pledge to cut levels of pollution to be made law

The battle for cleaner air was boosted today with a pledge to set a legal ceiling on toxic pollution such as diesel fumes.

Environment Secretary Michael Gove announced in a speech that levels of particulates would be bound by law to be kept under World Health Organisation recommendations.

The move strengthens the campaign to clear up London’s toxic air, which has seen levels of particulates routinely rise above current limits.
