CIEEM Spring Conference: Call for Papers
24 December 2018
Biodiversity Net Gain from Policy to Practice: A Transformative Tool for Tackling Biodiversity Loss?
CIEEM, one of the Society for the Environment's licensed bodies, are currently seeking proposals for presentations for their 2019 Spring Conference.
Following the publication of the first UK good practice guidance on delivering biodiversity net gain through development, this one-day conference will explore the rationale behind the biodiversity net gain approach, how to make it work for all stakeholders and the technical issues affecting effective implementation. We will examine different stages of the process and the challenges of measuring, verifying and attributing true ‘net gain’. The conference will also explore the wider environmental net gain agenda and the associated risks and rewards.
Proposals for conference presentations should meet one or more of the following objectives:
• The rationale for a biodiversity net gain approach as a tool to halt biodiversity loss and its potential application in effective habitat creation and restoration (ideally across a range of habitats and land uses)
• Biodiversity net gain in practice and application of the Good Practice Principles – case studies and metrics
• Creating opportunities and managing the risks associated with biodiversity net gain
• Environmental net gain as a broader perspective – risks and reward
Please return completed proposals to firstname.lastname@example.org by Wednesday, 23 January 2019.
The Conference will take place on Wednesday, 27 March 2019 in Reading. For more information and to book your place, please visit the events page
