Chartered Environmentalists and one of the Society's Licensed Bodies have their say in the ENDs Report on the big launch that caught the attention of the environment sector this week.

Yesterday saw the launch of the long-awaiting and highly anticipated 25 Year Environment Plan, which was launched by Prime Minister Theresa May during a key environment speech in London.

The launch was big news and prompted comment from professional bodies, Chartered Environmentalists, political figures, campaigners, NGOs, business leaders and more. However, the Society is taking this opportunity to focus on the expertise of Chartered Environmentalists and their Licensed Bodies by highlighting their comments published by the ENDS Report:

Chartered Environmentalists (CEnv)

David Symons CEnv, WSP’s UK director of sustainability, said the plan "helps give shape to Michael Gove’s ‘Green Brexit’ and provides assurance that a departure from the European Union will raise the UK’s environmental ambitions".

Martin Baxter CEnv said the plan could be "accused of lacking in urgency” and would only have teeth “if it’s underpinned by the right legislation and strong governance, yet the prime minister made no mention of how the plan will be enforced".

The Chartered Institution for Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) noted that "although many policies will be clarified in subsequent strategies, the plan contains some ambitious long term commitments and near term steps".
