Society for the Environment President, Tony Juniper CEnv, Recognised in Queen’s Birthday Honours

20 June 2017   (0 Comments)

It comes with great pleasure to announce that the Society for the Environment President, Tony Juniper CEnv, has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours 2017.

An influential environmental campaigner, writer and speaker, as well as a leading sustainability advisor, Tony was recognised for his services to conservation with a CBE.

Following the announcement, Tony reacted by saying; "I am absolutely delighted to receive this honour. Making progress on conservation and environmental questions often feels like a rather unequal struggle. Having my work recognised in this way will certainly encourage me to do a lot more in facing the many challenges that lie ahead".

The Queen’s Birthday Honours List was published on the 16th June 2017, which also included environmental honours for services to sustainable food production, environmental protection and inland waterways.

Dr Emma Wilcox, Chief Executive of the Society for the Environment, commented; “I am delighted that Tony has been recognised for his services to conservation with a CBE. The honour is well deserved, and it is so nice to see years of hard work protecting our environment being recognised in such a prestigious way. It is also fantastic to see a number of other people rewarded for their work to protect the environment.”

For over 25 years Tony has worked to encourage and implement sustainability at local, national and international levels through work with a variety of organisations.

In 2013 Tony became the first President of the Society for the Environment, a role that he continues to this day. In the same year, he accepted an invitation to become an Honorary Fellow of the Society. Subsequently, in 2014, Tony achieved registration as a Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv), recognising his environmental knowledge and expertise, and a commitment to using and promoting environmental good practice in his daily working life.

To further highlight Tony’s achievements, he is also recognised by two of the Society’s Licensed Bodies as an Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Environmental Sciences and a Patron of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management. This is alongside recognition from a number of other organisations that Tony is associated with.
