Hope Solutions & the Earthshot Prize celebrate five years of partnership driving sustainable global events

Hope Solutions, the sustainability consultancy, is celebrating five years as a trusted partner to The Earthshot Prize

Hope Solutions, the sustainability consultancy working across the music and live events sector, is celebrating five years as a trusted partner to The Earthshot Prize.

Since the Prize’s launch in 2020 by HRH Prince William, Hope Solutions has supported the annual Awards Night and The Earthshot Prize Summit in host cities around the world.

“Working alongside The Earthshot Prize over the past five years has been a privilege. Each edition of the Awards Night presents a new set of challenges and opportunities. Together, I genuinely feel we’ve been able to push the boundaries of what sustainable global events can look like. Our shared focus has always been on practical solutions that leave a positive, impactful legacy.” –Luke Howell, Founder & Director of Hope Solutions, MSI CEnv FISEP

In its role as sustainability partner, Hope Solutions has worked closely with The Earthshot Prize and their event and broadcast partners  to map and engage stakeholders, train supply chains and production teams in sustainable event practices, collect, analyse and report on carbon impacts, and provide ongoing recommendations to reduce environmental footprints year on year. The partnership has also expanded to capture new areas of measurement, including social impact metrics for the first time in 2024.

“Each year we take The Earthshot Prize Awards Night to a new country. This brings with it a new set of challenges to make the Awards broadcast as sustainable and low impact as possible, while working within the confines of each geography. Since year one Hope Solutions have worked with us as a trusted partner, training our delivery partners, providing guidance on how to minimise our impact while still growing our ambition, and supporting us to track and report our footprint. Luke and the team provide invaluable support and expertise, ensuring that our Awards show continues to inspire millions while keeping our footprint low.” – Stephen Lavery, Senior Impact & Insights Manager at The Earthshot Prize

Each edition of The Earthshot Prize Awards Night has brought fresh challenges and opportunities for sustainable innovation.

In 2021, Hope Solutions supported the London ceremony produced by BBC Studios, which featured Coldplay’s bike-powered performance and went on to win a BAFTA. The following year, in Boston, the team delivered sustainability reporting across multiple stakeholders in one of the busiest global city settings and helped plant trees used on set in local parks and community spaces. In 2023, the scope expanded in Singapore to include the full Earthshot Week programme. In 2024, Cape Town saw the first South African production awarded Albert Certification, alongside the challenges of reducing the impact of temporary structures. In November this year – adjacent to COP30 – Hope Solutions will support the Rio de Janeiro event, providing carbon reporting and ongoing recommendations to strengthen Earthshot’s global sustainability strategy. Throughout the partnership, Hope Solutions have been able to tap into their solutions provider network – helping secure lower impact solutions in locations all over the world (not limited to cities where the awards took place).

Through this partnership, Hope Solutions has helped The Earthshot Prize Awards not only measure their event and engagement environmental impact but also build long-lasting sustainability knowledge among local suppliers and partners.
