As part of the 2025 SocEnv Awards event on the 4th June 2025, Adam Donnan CEnv was announced as the latest Honorary Fellow of the Society for the Environment (HonFSE). An HonFSE has made significant impact during their career to date and must be one or more of the following:

  • A publicly recognised champion of the environment.
  • Any person who has given outstanding service to environmental sustainability.
  • Any person who has given outstanding service to the Society.

Adam Donnan HonFSE CEnv

Adam Donnan CEnv has worked at the Institution of Environmental Sciences (IES) since 2006, becoming their CEO in 2013, driving policy initiatives that have put environmental science and evidence at the heart of policy and forging relationships with numerous partner organisations including Natural England, Defra, the Environment Agency and the Office for Environmental Protection.

Adam has managed the complex incorporation of several constituent groups, including the Institute of Air Quality Management, the Community of Environmental Disciplines in HE, and the Foundation for Water Research. He is an enthusiast for collaborations yielding impact that are greater than when individual organisations work separately. Adam has recently completed a three-year term as Chair of the Science Council, and past roles include Chairing the Technical Pathways Programme Board and a Non-Executive Director of Change Agents UK.

Adam has been well recognised externally and has been the winner of numerous awards for his environmental and sustainability work, notably as Young Leader of the Year 2014, Association Awards UK and recognised on The ENDS Report Power List of the 100 most influential UK environmental professionals in 2022, 2023 and 2025.
