Summary

Tackling the interlinked emergencies of the biodiversity crisis and a changing climate has become a political and social priority. The work of ecologists and environmental managers will inevitably be critically important in helping to restore nature, repair damaged ecosystem functionality and reduce carbon emissions. So the habitats we manage the projects we design , the advice we give and the recommendations we make must be cognizant of the need to understand and contribute to these ‘big picture’ issues.

This conference will explore how the work that CIEEM do is changing (must change) in response both to the need to make sure we are contributing to addressing these environmental imperatives and the opportunities we have to do so because of the greater political, social and economic awareness of those we work with. We also need to look at our own performance as environmental professionals – are we really doing our bit to help save the planet?
