Connecting education to professional registration

Raising awareness and profile of the educational pathways that can lead to green jobs and professional registration.

Growing skills, careers and opportunity

We began a new programme of work in June 2024, creating and establishing connections between education and professional registration.

Collaborating with our Licensed Members, we are developing accessible routes to registration that recognise the knowledge and skills developed and demonstrated through the achievement of an educational programme. This achievement will lead to opportunities to register as a:

  • Registered Environmental Technician (REnvTech)
  • Registered Environmental Practitioner (REnvP)
  • Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv)

Our educational pathways programme of work includes:

  1. Identifying green occupations and the educational pathways that develop knowledge and skills
  2. Forming links between apprenticeship achievement and professional registration
  3. Creating an Education + Skills Network. Convening and connecting our Licensed Members and wider SocEnv community to explore a range of educational themes
  4. Accreditation and Endorsement to develop new routes to registration from Licensed Member accredited and endorsed courses
  5. Working with employers and education stakeholders to influence and integrate SocEnv professional standards within educational pathways that lead to green occupations
  6. Profiling individuals who have grown their career through education and professional registration, to celebrate their success and advocate to others the opportunities available
  7. Engagement – working with educational providers, students/apprentices, End Point Assessment Organisations (EPAO) and employers to promote the benefits of professional registration

Across the UK and internationally, educational pathways look to address the knowledge and skills required for industry and workforce needs.  This provision is delivered through a range of provision such as: Apprenticeships; A Levels; T Levels; Higher Technical Qualifications; Undergraduate Degrees; Post-Graduate courses, to name a few.

The development of skills can be further supported via traineeships, Skills Bootcamps and other learning and professional development courses.  Additionally, there is a broad range of vocational and technical education qualifications delivered both part- and full-time.

This provision being delivered by further education colleges, school sixth forms, independent training companies, employers, charities and universities.
