Celebrating ten years with our Chief Executive!

We are delighted to mark our Chief Executive's 10 years!

Tuesday 1st July 2025 marks ten years since Dr Emma Wilcox CEnv FIMMM CMgr FCMI joined the Society for the Environment as CEO – a milestone to celebrate!

Ten years ago, Emma joined us from the National Skills Academy for Power. Since then, she has led the team through an ongoing increase in environmental registrants, the development of new registrations, governance changes, moving to remote working, and so much more.

Chair of the Society, Dougal Driver CEnv, remarked:

“For an organisation that registers professionals, you need someone at the helm who exemplifies professionalism in all they do. We are fortunate to have had that in abundance from Emma – and for 10 years, no less!

During her tenure, she has overseen not only the growth of the organisation in terms of Member Bodies and overall registrants, but also an increased profile for the Society and a very sustainable business model.

Congratulations to Emma on a fabulous milestone – with our new strategy in development, we have many exciting times to come!”

On reaching ten years at the Society, Emma said:

“It is hard to believe it has been ten years since I joined the Society.  Over that time, I have been able to work with amazing team members and volunteers to support environmental professionals. It is an honour to lead SocEnv, and I am excited to keep working to deliver our next chapter.”

On the topic of milestones, in June we wished our colleague of 17 years, Elaine Rutherford, a happy retirement. Elaine has been a cornerstone of our work since joining the team and is the longest serving team member in our 21 year history. She leaves her most recent post as Organisational Governance Manager.

To mark this news, Emma said:

“Many of you will know Elaine as the SocEnv encyclopaedia of knowledge, full of enthusiasm, and always ready to drop everything to help. Her commitment and hard work throughout her time with us has been nothing short of outstanding.

From all at SocEnv and our wider community – I’d like to extend a huge thank you to Elaine – we wish you all the best for the future. You will be truly missed.”
