World Environment Day

We all recognise the environmental challenges ahead of us.  While we have made progress in recent years implementing policies to protect our planet, we must recognise we cannot be green by regulation alone.  Human behaviour plays a role; people must understand how to take care of the planet.

And so the Society is championing World Environment Day (annually, on the 5th June), and our goal is that the day will be recognised by everyone in the UK. World Environment Day is the United Nations’ most important day for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the protection of our environment. Since it began in 1974, it has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries.

World Environment Day is the ‘people’s day’ for doing something to take care of the Earth or become an agent of change. That ‘something’ can be focused locally, nationally or globally; it can be a solo action or involve a crowd – everyone is free to choose.

At the Society we are doing what we do best, bringing environmental professionals from a broad range of technical disciplines representing many professions together to learn, share and inspire. We will continue to celebrate the efforts of environmental professionals while at the same time helping public awareness.
