February 2018

Posted By Dr Emma Wilcox, 21 February 2018

We’re Hitting New Heights

Over the last couple of months, we have been able to finalise some impressive Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) figures from 2017, we welcomed a new Constituent Body and the plans for World Environment Day 2018 are well underway.

The Society continues to go from strength to strength, having recruited above target numbers of new Chartered Environmentalists in 2017, with over 7,300 now on the register, and closing in on registering 10,000 CEnvs since our inception. Plus, 2017 accounted for the highest number of new registrations via the traditional application route to date. Adding to this, 2018 also appears to have got off to an encouraging start.

I am delighted to see that increasingly more individuals are showcasing their environmental knowledge and expertise by gaining professional registration, during a time where environmental issues and pressures are coming to the forefront in policy, government and with the general public. The Society’s position is clear when it comes to the need for experts to guide government, businesses and education on environmental matters in a so called ‘post truth’ era.

In January, the Society welcomed the Nuclear Institute as a new Constituent Body (CB) following approval from the Council, taking the number of CBs to 25 in total. We look forward to this relationship and the future potential for new CEnvs to add value to a complex and multi-dimensional agenda.

2018 will see the return of World Environment Day – an annual, flagship UN Environment initiative taking place on the 5th June, championed by the Society. The preparations are in full swing for the Society’s annual World Environment Day event (taking place on World Environment Day itself), as well as opportunities for Chartered Environmentalists and Registered Environmentalist Technicians to get involved in the run up to the day.

We want you to embrace World Environment Day to showcase your positive work as an environmental professional. What do you do for the environment? How does your organisation reduce its environmental impact? Have you been involved in a project that changed perceptions? We want to hear from you! Contact our Marketing Executive, Phil Underwood, to discuss how you can be involved. Remember, we’re always open to new ideas and suggestions.
Further details about our World Environment Day event will be released soon, alongside registration.

All for now.
