During the last week of November 2025, we tipped over 9,000 current registered environmental professionals for the first time.
SocEnv holds the official register for Chartered Environmentalists, Registered Environmental Technicians, and Registered Environmental Practitioners – a community larger than ever.
Now working across 97 countries and within countless sectors and disciplines, registered environmental professionals are dedicated to making a difference. Each professional has met the relevant competency standards, committed to CPD, and signed a code of professional conduct to achieve one of three registrations:
- Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv)
- Registered Environmental Practitioner (REnvP)
- Registered Environmental Technician (REnvTech).
Reacting to the milestone, SocEnv Chief Executive, Dr Emma Wilcox CEnv, said:
“Our registrants are individuals who not only have the competence needed to make and take impactful environmental decisions, they also commit to a clear code of professional conduct. I am proud to recognise and champion all of them.”
Maria Woods CEnv was one of the very recently registered Chartered Environmentalists that helped to surpass the 9,000 mark, and explains what it means to her:
“Becoming a Chartered Environmentalist is an exciting milestone for me. Joining this community means connecting with like-minded people and I look forward to sharing knowledge, ideas and working together to create lasting positive change for our environment.”
Engagement Manager at SocEnv, Phil Underwood, added:
“Whilst reaching a milestone number of environmental professionals with externally verified competence doesn’t immediately solve the challenges that face us, it is adding to the roadmap of change and a signal of intent. More professionals with proven, up to date knowledge, making informed decisions for the environment. More professionals leading the way towards a sustainable future. More professionals connected by a unifying global standard. More inspirational figures for the next generation to follow.”
